Book Review Of Women In The Superintendency

When Women In The Superintendency came out in 2006, it took the literary world by a storm. The book is written by Joyce A. Dana and Diana M. Bourisaw and is a chronicle of the challenges that women in leadership positions in US public schools face.

The best part about this book is that the scenarios highlighted can be part of any field where women are employed. A woman, who believes in gender equality, will easily identify with the book. However, the book goes one step forward and even helps to give solutions and suggestions on how to tackle discarded leadership, gender prejudices and male chauvinism.

The book starts with how women have been subjected to injustice at workplace for the last 100 years. The authors took time to do a thorough research of the past and also of the prevailing situation in the present. In addition, 25 women school superintendents are interviewed in the book, and each one highlights the barriers they face and what they do to overcome these barriers.

The book highlights how women in leadership position work, and how different their style of working is. While men make others work for them, women tend to work with others. In addition, the book is not boring as it has many interesting anecdotes.

So, although it is a serious book that everyone should read, it is still light enough to be engaging and interesting. It will definitely give working women something to identify with, and it will make them realize that they are not alone in the world facing discrimination and gender bias.
