Book Reviews On March By Geraldine Brookes

Everyone knows about the book Little Women and the protagonists in the book -- the March girls. The book was written by Louisa May Alcott and ended up becoming a popular family book. However, the book entitled March is written by Geraldine Brooks, who takes the time to highlight the life of the March girls' father, John March.

If you remember, in Little Women, John March was absent from most part of the book. So, there is not much known about him. However, March rectifies that.

March has a beautiful storyline that depicts how human mind and families can be seriously affected by a war. How lives of couples can be ruined by the ravages of war. March shows how the couple handles the havoc in their lives that ends up changing their marriage. The March couple love each other very much, but they still hide facts from each other so that do not end up hurting each other.

The book has borrowed characters from Little Women and weaved and intricate story about the father and his past. It is definitely an engaging book that has turned out to be a literary masterpiece. Not only is the book well researched and imaginative, it clearly paints how a war can destroy innocent lives. By the end of the book, the reader will start questioning whether a war is worth all the destruction and havoc it wreaks in the lives of people.

The book received the Pulitzer Prize in 2006 for its realistic depiction of war, and the life of John March prior to his marriage and during the early days of his marriage.
