Lord of the Rings is a fantasy story of epic proportions written by the renowned writer J.R.R. Tolkien. The book is in the form a trilogy, and was published initially as three separate books. The trilogies are entitled Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and Lord of Rings: The Return of the King. |
The story is about a ring, which has supernatural powers. The ring was forged by Sauron, the Dark Lord, many thousands of years ago. He used the powers of the rings to help him rule the Middle Earth. However, King Islidur fights Sauron and manages to take the ring. Unfortunately, the king loses the ring in a river where it laid untouched for thousands of years. Then Gollum, a being, finds the ring and he owns it for the next 500 years. Later, Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, finds the ring and takes it to his village, the Shire.
The first book of the trilogy starts with Frodo, another hobbit, getting the ring as Bilbo's heir. Suddenly a wizard named Gandalf the Grey, who was Bilbo's friend, appears and convinces Frodo to get rid of the ring because of its evil powers. Frodo, then, leaves Shire in his quest to get rid of the ring. He is accompanied by a group of loyal friends. During their journey, Frodo and his friends meet Aragorn, who is also known as Strider.
In their quest to get rid of the ring, Frodo and his friends encounter lots of misfortunes and also have a lot of adventures. They meet elves, kings, princes and princesses in a world beyond Shire. In one of these adventures, the kings and leaders from the Middle Earth decide that the ring just cannot be destroyed like that. It had to be destroyed in a fire at Mount Doom. So, once again, Frodo, his friends and Aragorn set on this mission where they encounter grave danger and fight armies loyal to the Dark Lord.
At the end the ring is destroyed and peace once again reigns in Middle Earth. With the destruction of the ring, the dark forces threatening Middle Earth disappear.
