Imagine sitting in a theater and watching Professor Robert Langdon and French cryptographer Sophie Neveu unearth a mystery that has been kept under wraps for over 2000 years? Just the thought is unbelievable, but exciting.

The story begins with the killing of Jacques Sauniere, who is Sophie's grandfather and also the curator of the Louvre. While he is dying, Sauniere manages to leave a clue about a secret that he had been harboring all his life. It then is left up to Langdon and Neveu to decipher the clue and solve the mystery.

As the pair try to unearth what Sauniere was trying to tell them at his deathbed, they realize that their lives are in danger. The quest to solve the mystery and to save their lives, takes Langdon and Neveu through Paris, London and Scotland, while the Paris police is chasing them.

During their run, Neveu gains new insights into theology from Langdon and also discovers that she had made a mistake by shunning her grandfather in the last few years of his life.

However, at the end Langdon and Neveu are successful in solving the mystery and finding out what the Da Vinci code was. Of course, in the course of it all, they had to find ways to keep themselves unharmed and also had to figure out that their friend Sir Leigh Teabing was not really a friend.

The Da Vinci Code was released in 2006 and ended up grossing a mammoth $217,536,138 in the box office in the US alone. Although controversial because of the topic it dealt with, the movie still became a box office hit.
