The Hobbit Movie

The Hobbit is a movie based on the novel of the same name written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Just like the novel, the movie is also very long and that is why it is broken into two parts. The movie is directed by Guillermo Del Toro, while Peter Jackson is the co-writer and the executive producer.

The movie is the story about Bilbo and his quest to find the treasure hidden in the lair of a dragon named Smaug. The lair is deep in the Lonely Mountain, Bilbo along with a group of dwarves make this journey at the behest of Gandalf, the wizard.

During the journey, Bilbo and the dwarves face a lot of adventures, and it is here that Tolkien introduces the finding of the Ring by Bilbo, which becomes the basis for The Lord of Rings epic novel.

The movie is still being filmed and it is believed that the first part will be released in 2011, while the second part will be released in 2012. The cast is still being finalized, but what is rumored is that Ian McKellen will acts as Gandalf, Andy Serkis will enact Gollum and Hugo Weaving will enact the role of Elrond. It is also rumored that Ron Perlman will be casted in the role of Thorin, while Doug Jones is also slated to be given a part.

As the first part is still considered to be under production, it is quite likely that the release date for the first part of the film might change which, in turn, will alter the release date of the second part of The Hobbit.
